WhatsApp working out new privacy settings for desktop users

The mutimedia messaging app, WhatsApp, has been reportedly working out another update that will allow the users to manage privacy settings.

According to WhatsApp tracking platform WABetaInfo, the Facebook-owned messaging app is charting out better privacy settings for the WhatsApp Web, or the desktop version. At present, the users have to update these settings from the app in their phone.

“Seen that multi-device is helping WhatsApp desktop to be independent of your phone, WhatsApp is now introducing missing features,” the WABetaInfo reported.

According to the news of the new update, still in the making, when available, it will allow users to manage their privacy settings within Desktop settings.

Once the update has materalized, you will be able to change and upgrade who can see the last seen, profile photo and about.

Users will also be able to enable and disable read receipts and can choose who can add you to WhatsApp groups.

Previously, it was possible to manage blocked phone numbers but the option will be moved in this new section

The platform, however, reported that there the release date has not been revealed.

Facebook changes its company name to Meta

key to note that just last night it was made public that Facebook Inc, conglomerate of various digital companies including WhatsApp, said it would rebrand as Meta, a name change that comes as the company battles criticisms from lawmakers and regulators over its market power, its algorithmic decisions and the policing of abuses on its platforms.

The company said the change would bring together its different apps and technologies under one new brand.
